If you are reading this, then chances are that you want to study Bhagavad Gita but have some doubts or questions related to it. So we at Gita Quest will try to answer all such questions one by one through our this series of blogs.
So in this first blog of the series we are going to answer one of the most prominent questions that come to our mind when we first try to start reading Bhagavad Gita ie 'Is There Any Specific Time to Read Bhagavad Gita?'
Although there is no rule regarding the prescribed time for reading Bhagavad Gita and can be read anytime whenever you feel comfortable so long your attention is not disturbed.
- You can read Gita either in the morning or at the night or
- whenever something good happens or bad or
- when you feel alone or when you are trying to find some answers,
Howsoever, as a good practice it is advisable to read Bhagavad Gita during the morning hours, especially during the Brahma Muhurat ie one and a half hours before sunrise.
Now a question might arise in your mind, why are we recommending reading Gita in the morning hours when we can read it anytime?
The answer to this question is that in this material world, we as living entities are always influenced by one or more Guna (force) that makes us act in a particular way. You all must have watched puppet shows in which the puppet is made to act on the stage with the help of ropes. Similar is the condition with us and in our case, these ropes are the three Gunas known as the Satva, Rajas, and Tamas.
In the Bhagavad Gita also it has been mentioned in sloka 5 of Chapter 14
सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति गुणा: प्रकृतिसम्भवा: ।
निबध्नन्ति महाबाहो देहे देहिनमव्ययम् ॥ ५ ॥
Material nature consists of three modes – goodness, passion, and ignorance. When the eternal living entity comes in contact with nature, O mighty-armed Arjuna, he becomes conditioned by these modes.
In the morning hours, we are influenced majorly by Satva Guna as a result of which our mind is at peace and the process of gaining knowledge becomes faster and a lot easier, hence by reading Gita during this time can help us increase the Satva Guna and overcome the influence of other two Gunas. (You can check out our detailed blog on these Gunas and their influence from here)
Hence we request you to start reading Bhagavad Gita today because the Supreme Lord Krishna himself says in Bhagavad Gita sloka 70 of Chapter 18 :
अध्येष्यते च य इमं धर्म्यं संवादमावयो: ।
ज्ञानयज्ञेन तेनाहमिष्ट: स्यामिति मे मति: ॥ ७० ॥
And I declare that he who studies this sacred conversation of ours worships Me by his intelligence.
In the coming blogs, of this series, we will try to answer some more questions and burst out some more popular myths regarding the reading of the Bhagavad Gita so till then stay tuned and keep on reading Bhagavad Gita.
