Is Gita to be read in the later (old)stage of life

So in our quest to clear the common misconceptions that surround the reading of Bhagavad Gita we are here with yet another blog to burst one more such misconception that nowadays has become quite common especially among the youth.

It must be a common experience for all of you that whenever you start talking about reading Gita in front of your relatives, friends, or your well-wishers there will definitely be a person who will reprimand you by saying that Gita isn't meant for the youth!

They will further say “You are so young, for now you should concentrate only on your career and enjoying your life; for reading Gita the whole life is there and what not.”

Then we also begin to think “Is Gita really meant to be read in the later (old) stage of life?”

Answer : Certainly Not!

Original student of Gita was also in his Youth.

As we all know that Gita was originally spoken by Lord Krishna to his friend and devotee Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

So Were Arjuna and Krishna old when this enlightening conversation took place ?? No not all. Both the lord and Arjuna were young and after the battle their whole life was in the front of them.

Urgency of Gita’s Message

The need for this knowledge was so urgent that in the middle of the battlefield where a war was about to take place, Krishna gave this knowledge and enlightened Arjuna about his real Dharma (occupational duty).

The User Manual Example

Another reason, 'Why Gita should be read in young age?' is that whenever we buy any new gadget we get a user manual along with it that guides us with the proper way to operate that product.

Similarly, Gita which has often been described as the manual of life guides us about the do's and don'ts of life.

We read user manual before we use the product ? or after we have damaged the product ? We have to read Gita in our youth so that we can make best out of our life.

Since we have rejected Gita ..

Today in our race to be the best hardly anyone cares about values and virtues as a result of which even school going children are suffering from depression, anger problems, addiction, lust, getting engaged in crimes, and what not. And what's the main reason behind all this??

It is indeed the rejection of the user manual that the lord gave us with this life. Bhagavad Gita is not just any religious scripture but the ultimate solution for all our problems and hence should be read by everyone doesn't matter whether he is rich or poor, male or female, upper class or lower class, young or old.

As Sripad Shankaracharya has also remarked :

सर्वोपनिषदो गावो दोग्धा गोपालनन्दनः ।

पार्थो वत्सः सुधीर्भोक्ता दुग्धं गीतामृतं महत् ।।

गाई उपनिषद्, कृष्ण ग्वाला, बाछो धनुर्धर

उपभोक्ता सुधी, गीता-सुधा हो दुध वास्तव ।।

(If) All Upanishads are (likened to) cows. The milker is the son of the cowherd, Krishna; Arjuna, son of Prutha, is the calf; the men of purified intellect are the drinkers and the milk is the supreme nectar of Gita.
